In this TED Talk, Brené Brown talks about vulnerability being absolutely essential for whole hearted living. It is often perceived as weakness, yet it is the most accurate measurement of courage you can find. Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change. Brown makes the case that we need to look at shame in order to look at vulnerability. Shame is that voice that says “I am not good enough”, or “I am not worthy”. She also makes the point that women and men have different ways of doing shame – for women, the impossibility of doing it all and doing it all perfectly drives us to shame. For men, it’s giving the appearance of being weak. Surely if we are to move into a more whole hearted and compassionate was of being, these old ideas need to be looked at and the shame that we each carry be acknowledged and brought to awareness and light.
